Enrichment Programs
The items listed below are an example of the programs offered by different schools in the district.
After School Enrichment
Grades 3-5, students selected by teacher recommendation and/or District testing.
Chess Program
Open to all Port Huron Area School District students grades K-12. Students may participate in the annual chess tournament in March. This is an open tournament, consisting of five rounds. The annual chess tournament takes place in March and is normally held at Port Huron High School.
Destination Imagination
International program emphasis on creative problem solving with team competition at local, regional and state level. Competition for elementary, middle and high school students. Coaches' training is provided for parent volunteers. October through March.
MathCounts
Nationwide junior math program for middle school students sponsored by the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers, Blue Water Chapter. Tournament includes county middle school participation. Port Huron Schools host the event at Central Middle School.
Quiz Bowl
High School and Middle School after-school program with academic competition county-wide.

Robotics
Rainbow Singers
4th and 5th grade students from all Port Huron Schools are chosen for their vocal singing ability by music teachers. Nine weeks of after school rehearsals takes place during first semester, with a concert in December.

Title I Program
Ensuring that all students have the assistance they need to succeed!
What is "Title I"?
The purpose of the Title I program is to provide extra instruction to students who are struggling to meet grade level expectations in reading, writing, math, science or social studies.
Title I funding is part of the Federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015. Title I has been in existence since 1965 when President Lyndon Johnson signed the Elementary & Secondary Education Act. Every few years this legislation gets renewed and gets a new name and new requirements.
Title I is NOT a special education program.
How can a parent learn more about Title I?
Port Huron Schools welcomes parent involvement in our programs and services. We want to be sure we are meeting your child's needs AND meeting your expectations.
Here are some ways you can be more involved:
Stay in close communication with your child's teacher and principal. Ask questions about the extra help he/she is receiving.
Attend Parent /Teacher conferences regularly. Schedule additional times if you have concerns.
Attend parent workshops which are designed to help you help your child.
Complete school surveys to help us design programs that meet your needs.

What Title I services are provided in Port Huron Schools?

When funding is available, Title I has provided a summer school program for students from all district Title I schools.
