PORT HURON SCHOOLS OFFERS ROBOTICS AT ALL AGE LEVELS

PORT HURON — Port Huron Schools - in thanks to grants from the PHS Endowment Fund and the Michigan Department of Education - now offers robotics programs for all students.

Recently, the Port Huron Schools Endowment Fund granted $6,898 to enhance the robotics offerings at the elementary and middle school levels. Prior to the recent grants, the district featured a unified high school FIRST Robotics team - the Mecanum Knights Team 3667 - along with programs at the STEAM Academy at Woodrow Wilson, Michigamme and Thomas Edison elementary schools. The MDE grant was contingent on matching funds, which were met. This enabled the district to provide additional elementary and middle school robotics programs as well as updating the resources for the current programs.

“Every student has access to robotics programming this year,” explained Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Catherine Woolman. “This funding allows students at all levels to further pursue their interest in this field.”

The Mecanum Knights qualified for the FIRST in Michigan State Championships during the 2021-22 school year.
